Event: the inclusion of Afghan people in Lazio (Italy)
As part of the “The land of ARII” project, CISP is organising the event “The inclusion of Afghan people in Lazio: state of the art, critical issues and opportunities” Discussion between interested parties", on Tuesday 19 September 2023 at 9 am in Rome.
In the aftermath of the media's spotlight shifting away, the network of institutions, public bodies, and private social sectors in the area remains committed to promoting and facilitating the exercise of citizenship rights and duties for refugees from Afghanistan. The Lazio Region is actively supporting the integration of Afghan migrants through five projects financed by the Public Notice “Creation of Interventions and Networks for the Social Inclusion of Afghan Migrants in the Territory of the Lazio Region."
Evaluating the progress of such initiatives two years after the arrival of Afghan migrants is a valuable step to assess the progress made, address critical issues, and identify measures to enhance their life prospects and relationships within the local, national, and European context.
A diverse range of stakeholders will be attending the event; Non-profit organizations that focus on pathways to the inclusion of Afghan people, adult education centers, Universities, Regional Body for the Right to Education, institutional services and private social sectors, health services, legal protection, transition to work and Afghan diaspora associations. Giuseppe Schiboni, Councilor of the Lazio region for Work, University, School and Training, Research and Merit, will conclude the event.
Experts will participate to three working groups focused on critical issues related to inclusion in the Lazio area, such as training and skills strengthening, access to territorial services, and job placement.
Started in April 2022 and completed in July 2023, the The Land of ARII project involved over 60 Afghan people offering them a range of services, aimed at responding flexibly to their needs: orientation, Italian language literacy, workshops to strengthen knowledge; transparency and balance of skills, legal support, health and psychological support, orientation to work.
The actions were carried out by CISP with partners ALESS Don Milani and IISMAS, dialoguing and collaborating with the bodies responsible for welcoming Afghans, the competent institutions and services, the associations, to promote social inclusion with a territorial network approach.
The results of the discussions between all these actors will be shared among the participants and then disseminated, to help consolidate knowledge of this diaspora, improve communication between services and between services and people, and make the many efforts more effective for the inclusion of this and other diasporas.
